Amazon came to Aura seeking a solution that delivered up-to-date, accurate baseline data for its Fresh packaging portfolio.
Client: Amazon.
Technology
With a vast supply base to manage, this solution needed to work across multiple territories and provide its grocery service with the ability to measure packaging progress against various commitments and targets.
Core areas of focus included:
- Compliance across multiple markets, including recyclability and end-of-life labeling.
- Upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation.
- Increasing compliance fees.
- The complexities of supply chain transparency.
As part of our process, Aura scoped out Amazon’s business targets, sustainability commitments and legislative requirements. We then developed a plan for implementation before managing the project end-to-end.
Our Technology team established the ideal configuration for granular packaging data capture and data migration into e-halo, our market-leading packaging specification platform.
This enabled Amazon to enter and evaluate data for over 11,000 individual primary, secondary and tertiary components for 4,000 Amazon Fresh products forming one central source of information and insight for the business.
e-halo captured more than 30 attributes for every packaging component, future-proofing Amazon’s packaging analysis for internal and external reporting.
With accurate baseline data in place, e-halo automatically analyzed over 10.3 quintillion possible combinations of packaging specification to calculate the recyclability of the packaging Bills of Materials and highlighted any ‘banned’ or ‘at risk’ attributes in their portfolio for 6 European countries.
Every component and Bill of Materials rolls up into several bespoke reporting dashboards that enable immediate analysis. Amazon’s packaging sustainability targets and progress can be simply evaluated at any time for any packaging group, brand, department or supplier.
Aura helped to implement a full reporting suite to guide the business on compliance across multiple markets, instantly calculate recyclability, and inform end-of-life labeling by market. The solution also provides updates on ‘at risk’ packaging attributes and areas for optimization.
As a result of Aura’s support, Amazon’s Fresh team can enjoy:
- More control and transparency for all packaging specifications.
- Live, accurate packaging data.
- Accurate supplier data, providing full visibility to Amazon on their portfolio.
Through our packaging consultancy and market-leading technology, we’ve built a data solution that provides Amazon’s Fresh division with transparency, control and compliance.
This insight ensures the company is perfectly placed to navigate not just today’s multiple markets, but future legislation too. It also allows the business to focus on strategic projects, delivering improvements and enhancements to drive positive change.
